Bases for the competition
- Guitarists of all nationalities born after January 1st, 1980 may participate in the Competition.
- The participation fee for national applications is Col$45,000, amount which may be deposited in Bogotá at the ticket-booths Nos. 26 to 37 located at Compensar´s “Centro de Desarrollo Empresarial” (Av. 68 No. 49A-47), and / or through the savings account number 011400323 from Banco de Crédito, under the name of “Caja de Compensación Familiar Compensar.”
- The participation fee for foreings applications is US$25, amount which may be deposited through Helm Bank, 999 Brickell Avenue, Miami, Florida 33 No. 131, account No. 1040098055, ABA: 067011456, under the name of “Caja de Compensación Familiar Compensar”.
- Contestants must attach a copy of the SWIFT of the banking operation certifying the payment.
- Contestants from countries managing a currency different to US Dollars must convert the amount to this currency and make the deposit in the aforesaid account.
- Applications must be submitted with a written request sent by certified mail including the following personal information and attachments:
- Full names.
- Identification document. (Please attach an authenticated photocopy of ID card, with the purpose of certifying date of birth and age).
- Date of birth.
- Home address.
- Telephone number, fax number, e-mail.
- Affiliated to Compensar? (YES / NO). (In case of affirmative answer, state the name of the company of affiliation).
- Submit a brief artistic Curriculum Vitae and a 3 x 4 cm. photograph.
- Please add the list of the repertoire. Be aware that when you send your repertoire it is important to name the piece that you choose to play in each phase, according to the maximum time established en each of them.
- First Phase: 15 minutes repertoire, including the obligatory piece.
- Second Phase: 20 minutes repertoire, including the obligatory piece.
- Third Phase: 25 to 35 minutes repertoire, including free program.
- Certification of deposit (original). Foreings contestants must attach a copy of the SWIFT of the banking operation certifying the payment.
- Deliver all documents to: “Concurso Jóvenes Artistas Compensar”, Av. 68 No. 49A-47, Graderías C.E.F. – Gerencia de Cultura – Bogotá, Colombia.
The deadline for submitting the documentation is March 31, 2008, until 5:00 PM. (Special care about his issue is recommended to contestants from cities different to Bogotá).
ONLY APPLICATIONS FULFILLING ALL REQUISITES INDICATED IN THE RULES FOR THE COMPETITION WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Note:
- Participants from out of town must assume the costs of transportation and lodging during their permanence in the Competition.
- No refunds will be made in case of not participating in the Competition.

Requisites
Three - Phase Program of the Competition:
First Phase: QUALIFYING ROUND
Obligatory pieces:
- FERNANDO SOR: Etude, Op. 29 No. 17 (Number 20 of the Segovia Edition of 20 Etudes by Sor – any edition).
- HEITOR VILLA - LOBOS: Etude No. 7, without repetitions (Max Eschig edition).
- Free-choice pieces.
The total duration of the program, including the obligatory pieces, must be 15 minutes maximum. The order of the program may be defined by the contestant.
Second Phase: SEMI - FINALIST ELIMINATION ROUND
Obligatory pieces:
- J. S. Bach: Prelude to the 2nd Suite for Lute, BWV 997 (any edition).
- “Bambuco,” from the Colombian Suite No. 3 by Gentil Montaña.
- Free-choice pieces.
The total duration of the program, (obligatory pieces plus free-choice selections) must be 20 minutes maximum. Pieces already presented in the first phase may not be included in the program.
Note: The piece “Bambuco,” from the Colombian Suite No. 3 by Gentil Montaña, will be delivered to all contestants upon approval of their application.
Third Phase: FINALIST ELIMINATION ROUND
A program of free choice, lasting minimum 25 minutes and maximum 35 minutes.
Note: The order of the program in each phase is of free choice in all phases. Participants must provide the jury with a copy of the music of their choice.

Rules and procedures of the competition
The Competition will be divided in three phases, all to be performed openly to the audience and before a jury.
- The order of performance of the contestants will be determined randomly in the presence of the jury on May 19, 2008, 10:00 AM, at Compensar. This order will be maintained throughout the competition.
- If by force majeure a member of the jury may not be present at the raffle, the guarantee of this assignment will be provided by the Artistic Director of the 6th International Encounter of Guitarists at Compensar.
- All pieces must be performed from memory.
- The first phase is the qualifying round, which will take place on May 19, 2008, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Compensar Concert Hall.
- The second phase, the semi - finalist elimination, will take place on the 20 and 21 of May, 2008, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Compensar Concert Hall.
- Up to three participants will be selected for the third phase, finalist elimination. This instance will take place the day after fulfilling the second phase, at 8:00 PM, during the Awarding Recital.
- The determinations of the jury may not be appealed. Any of the prizes may be declared deserted.
- Any situation unforeseen in these regulations will be resolved by the jury, and in case no agreement is reached among them, conjunctly by the organizers and the Jury.
- Applying to the Competition implies full acceptance of these conditions.

Prizes
The prizes will be awarded in three categories:
- First prize: US$3,000.
- Second prize: US$2,000.
- Third prize: US$1,000.
- Yamaha’s especial prize : Grand Concert Acoustic Guitar GC-41C
